A bit bored whilst being away from home again so thought I would dig out these old pics, sorry for the ‘Wood’ fans but this is pure ‘Metal’ and yes its just a few years too late but I did agree at the time to delay posting as someone had rights to the pictures on the day. So this was the landing of the last 3 operational Panavia Tornado F.3’s at RAF Leeming in March 2011. There were a couple more airframes that came up from Boscombe I think but this was a great day. By a stroke of luck a very good friend of mine was able to get me and another forumite on station. We watched them arrive do a circuit and land, I have some video somewhere which I will dig out and post. 3 Airframes with famous tails I believe hit the ‘Loop’ on their way in. So we have ZE791 ’25 Year Tail’, ZH554 ‘HX’ and ZE734 ‘JU’
I heard recently an ATC squadron have the 25 year tail which is good news. Enjoy the pics, I added a couple Hawks at the end 🙂 Try not to cry too much…

What happened to all the F3 rear seaters? Did they transfer over to GR4 squadrons or re-train as another aircrew specialty?

Not sure you’ll get too many tears on this forum for the demise of the Tornado F3…
…even if it was the best looking jet fighter that the RAF (or anybody else) has ever operated! 🙂
Can’t comment on the first part of your post as I know diddly squat about them, but off the top of my head I think you may have a point regarding it looks – if not one of the top two!
PS.. Did you receive my PM, Warren?
