Still chuckling after a delightful afternoon visiting Tim Elkington for tea yesterday. He just happened to comment that the P-47 Thunderbolt was his favourite aircraft to fly. On asking why, and completely deadpan, he replied: ‘It had an ashtray’.
Thank you for your hospitality, Tim. Although it was a little scary to realise that it was 25 years ago you dropped in to visit me!

SO good to be flown by such a highly commended and experienced chap – and an ex-member of my old squadron to boot!

I had to think about the post by DaveF68. But then the penny dropped!
It could be The Tower for DaveF68, I fear.

That picture is ripe for a caption competition – but be careful, you could end up in the Tower……
With apologies to Tim,

Funnily enough, this chap named Elkington cropped up in a book I bought the other day on Czechs in the RAF.
I bet he made the tea for you as well, Andy. A proper Gentleman with a capital G.

I have a Hurricane print that has been signed by every surviving Hurricane Pilot I have come across…except Tim !

That’s good to hear, Andy and still the sense of humour to the fore!! The longevity of these WW2 flyers is remarkable – he must be 95 or thereabouts!!:very_drunk:
