DC3 Static Display restoration India

HI … Seeing the recent DC3 threads I thought I would share a couple of pictures of my latest project. I and 2 colleagues have, over the period of 3 trips totalling 15 weeks ,have been in India ‘rescuing’ restoring and displaying a DC3 this past year. I only got back yesterday so if there is enough interest I would be happy to share more pics of the total restoration at a later date. I have never posted photos so hope they come out !!

Cracking bit of work there. Really good to see. Thanks for sharing, and don’t be afraid of publicising yourself

FabricFan…………..

Thank you for posting more images. Looks as though a wonderful restoration has taken place. Really hope and trust the aircraft continues to be cared for.

FabricFan………..

I feel sure a wider audience maybe interested………!!

Hi Planemike

I am sure you are right and will endeavour to post a few more pictures…I find it hard to guage the interest out there and don’t want to be seen as ‘self publicizing’ 🙂

Amazing!.. I read about the Dakota being sold in an auction and wondered where it went.

I recently mentioned that report on my website
http://www.warbirds.in/news/410-birla-dakota-vt-aum-at-nagda-auctioned-off.html
http://www.warbirds.in/madhyapradesh/58-douglas-dakota-vt-aum-at-birlagram-airport.html

Could you share your story on how you got involved in this venture?

Aircraft preservation in India is a sad state of affairs for most part, but this episode has certainly shed a new positive light.

And I am glad that it is displayed and not being used as a ‘Instructional Airframe’!

Thank you for your effort.

A little inspiration for you (not that you need it, looks like the job’s a good ‘un!):

HI Thunderbird167 and thank you.
Tha aircraft was the personal use of an Indian Industrialist during the 70 and 80’s . It sat for 25 years at a private airfield at Nagda beside a huge chemical and rayon producing plant . I have been honoured to be involved and we dismantled her and moved her to one of the familiys Cement plants at Sedam , about 3 hours from Hyderabad, The aircraft is now in the staff colony at the gate and sits proudly as a memorial to the previous owner. It will be cared for and looked after by staff there and hopefully be preserved for many years to come. She was in very poor state when we arived and riddled with corrosion and has been quite a challenge to say the least !!

Top work,

Where in India
What is the long term plan
Is it now in a museum ?

Regards
