I have been told that a group of specially-trained saboteurs attacked the above factory during the war but that Home Guard and Police files were removed.
MI5 claim all saboteurs sent to UK were apprehended and that no sabotage took place, except attacks they staged as fake sabotage (i.e. de Havilland’s factory in Hatfield).
Might anyone have any intel on the Preston attack?
Some I’ve contacted state it never happened but wonder whether anyone has come across references to it in their research.
THANKS,
Bernard

The EE Aircraft factory has been demolished and redeveloped. The surviving building on the other side of Strand Road (now Alstrom?) was part of the same complex but separated from the aircraft side postwar. If you visit Transport Models you can still see the remains of Dick Kerr’s tram tracks in the concrete road.

hi,
may be the wrong incident but I’ve read somewhere that intentional damage was done by our security forces to credit a turned agent,

FWIW, the English Electric factory in Preston is called Dick Kerrs in Strand Road……

It might be due to confusion with damage caused to a large aircraft which fell from gantry hoist inside a building. The accident record card i saw many years ago says that the leading edge balloon explosive cable cutter was left armed and this severed a cable causing the aircraft to fall suffering a lot of damage.Sabotage was not suspected according to the card and this was at Salmesbury.
I hate to nitpick, but it’s ‘Samlesbury’.
In fact that’s not quite true: I quite enjoy it 🙂
