I have recently acquired a Mercedes D III (not D IIIa) engine, BN 577, MN 31802, produced in March, 1917. Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft records show that it was delivered to Albatros about the middle of the month. I am looking for any production records from Albatros that may be able to indicate the tail number of the aircraft that it went into. Does anyone have any leads as to where these records could be?
Regards
John

Whoa! Apologies for not returning to this thread sooner.
Thank you for the comments. I’ve posted some additional information in a new thread: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?137096-Searching-for-Mercedes-D-III-Parts&highlight=mercedes
Errol, good idea. I am a long time member using the same name, Maxim08, on the Aerodrome. Information is posted there but Key Publishing is an active forum with many users involved in many aspects of aviation, not just WW1. Oddly enough, many of my WW1 items have come from those not overly interested in WW1 but aware of what is ‘out there’ due to an overall interest in aviation.
While I have yet to find any direct Albatros production records, a researcher via ‘The Aerodrome’ forum has come up with some good information that indicates the engine was probably in an early Albatros D V aircraft.

TVAL in New Zealand have remade similar engines and Albatros aircraft. I would guess they may have done a lot of background research. Might be worth contacting them. www.thevintageaviator.co.nz

That’s great, is it complete and are you going to build an Albatros for it? Amazing that these engines are still about, congratulations on your wonderful acquisition.

You should also ask at The Aerodrome.
