Agreed: Renfrew was location for many USAF and RCAF deliveries/despatches from seaborne transport.

They were, in fact, towed to Renfrew Airport, assembled and test flown there, before flying to Germany. The whole operation was photographed by “Life” magazine staff photographer, Walter Sanders. All of his images can be found on Google Life.

It is most likely they were towed from the old Renfrew Airport to Shieldhall Docks, the piece of road that can be seen at the bottom of the picture is still there and can be seen on the Google earth image of Shieldhall Docks, Glasgow.
In their case towed to Renfrew Airport, although I gather that it was a two way process at one time.

They were towed to Abbotsinch and flew out from there.
