Missing MH434 Documentary.

In the late 1970’s, there was a documentary about the history of MH434 on Thames Television. They managed to get together all of the surviving people who had been involved with the a/c over the years up to that point. There is only a short fragment available on You Tube. Does anyone have any idea where the full version may be found please..? Many Thanks.

Tonk.

If you want me to I can ask in email.

I am rebuilding his old Air Force Auster T7 WE552 back to flight that he used in HK and we often communicate, seems like a really top gentleman! He was so chuffed about her survival and rebuild he even gave me his pilots notes(with jottings) and personal photos and negs (of him with WE552 in HK) to go with the plane as she moves on through her life. I can only but ask….

Cheers
Anthony

That would be superb Anthony, if you could. There’s no harm in asking. Thanks

Last I heard, Granada Media Clips are the archive in charge of the former Thames TV collection

Well just to keep you informed Fremantle didn’t reply to my enquirey, so looks like the search has drawn a blank. If they do have the good grace to reply I’ll let you know.

I bought this programme up on here a few years ago!

Note Steve Connor’s post at the end.

It would be nice if Freemantle could find out who the rights to the programme actually belong to!

Cheers

Yes, the hold-down and pull-up was great – ala A.H. There were some other real gems in it too, but there was some seriously weird background music in parts as I recall. Nonetheless, my main interest was actually in the people, who were still very sharp when this was made. I’m really surprised that there isn’t a copy up on YT…. Everything else seems to have been posted…! :-/

Tonk, that is some footage 🙂 I can more than tolerate the somewhat clumsy sound editing (they could have been unlucky and had the Reds or something else running nearby during the display). Very evocative to see Ray exactly as I remember him at the show, giving that spine tingling display that will remain with me forever.

It was excellent, and covered manufacture, testing, ferrying and service. Unsurprisingly, most of the participants are no longer with us. After thirty-five years it’s a bit of an historic document itself…

I’ve emailed Freemantle to see if it’s available. Waiting for a reply, let you know if I hear something.

No – The clip here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDlT04X1HUI ) is from the one I’m talking about. It featured a dinner party with Sir Adrian Swire, Lettice Curtis, Dianna Bernato-Walker, Alex Henshaw and many others and was first transmitted by Thames TV, 16/09/80. I did have a recording of it years ago – long lost sadly. Would really love to see this again. ….. Has anyone got a copy please….? 😉

I’m not aware of that one Tonk. You’re not confusing it with the 1970s film featuring flying the Spitfire perhaps? The one that appears to be filmed at Booker, including start up procedure in the cockpit (narrated), heli following a take off, and glorious air to air footage including landing. I think Planes TV did a special on MH434 in the nineties.

it’s probably in the Thames TV archive, or whoever owns it these days. (Freemantle?)
