Part ID

I found this a few years back in the spoil pulled from a hole where some foundation works were being carried out on a military airfield. The hole was chock full of aircraft parts – the majority in very poor condition but still interesting.

This part does not feel aircraft quality however it was definitely in with other aircraft bits.

Can anyone identify it?
