Restrictions to Duxford displays?

BBC Look East this morning are saying that display routines at Duxford this weekend have been altered to prevent flying over the M11 or the A505.

Given the airfield’s location at the junction of these roads, and the fact that any approach or departure must surely pass over the M11, makes me wonder what the truth of this is, rather than the media interpretation?

Any of our Dux regulars have access to a more accurate interpretation?

Pretty sure they wouldn’t have landed there If they’d been worried.
The chinook did seem to put down promptly, we wondered if it had a problem till we saw the fuel truck

The tank bank was an epic place to be during the closing spitfire slot. It’s as close as you’re gonna get (within the confines of the crowd area) to 17 spitfires flying directly overhead.

More worrying was the chap I saw when leaving in one of the fields holding a “drone” (between the A505 and chrishall grange)

On Monday morning the air show committee will start making plans to move the silver and gold enclosures in front of the AAM and the public and FOD enclosures down left of control tower, is my prediction.

Think the tank bank is too far the other way. In front of the AAM is about right so an enclosure here would be good, especially if it served free drinks and biscuits, oh and had a toilet for the wife.:D

The Yak display team enters by flying over the crowd.
Plenty in the naughty field but spare a thought for those who paid to get into the school, I wouldn’t think they saw much of the display. I was told by a fireman that the school does have insurance cover and of course the money goes to a local school.

Goodbye Spitfire tail chase. 🙁

Cracking Spitfire tail chase to close the show!!!!

The ‘restrictions’ came into force briefly today – relevant authorities have requested that flying is paused if there is a build-up of traffic on the M11 or the A505 around IWM Duxford.
So what happens today? Double accident on the M11 S around the A505 junction called a temporary halt to the display. Helimed chopper arrived and landed I believe at the 24 threshold? Major disruption with the M11 S at a standstill for a good part of the afternoon… I think it was flowing again by 7.15 when I finally reached the M11 N.

Expect even more people wil use Grange road, naughty fields or not. I have always been content with watching and photography the show from the area between the shop/cafe and TFC hangar. Sometimes at the fence line others by the car. Great shots could be had of the aircraft arriving / departing over the Airspace hangar, top side heading North. The Western end of the airfield, from tower to tankbank has always been over crowded, especially when filled with corperate / private enclosures. Hopefully all will be good on Sunday.

I think you can see the moment when it gained those ripples in the fuselage behind the c0ckpit…

Would a second parachute being deployed on landing slow the aircraft down much more?

I would guess the farmer might sell for a huge profit but with the IWM seemingly to be cutting back i can’t see that happening.

For the majority of spectators I doubt it will make a scrap of difference.

I was standing M11 side of the control tower and I saw quite a bit of flying, just not the usual top side shots over the roundabout.

This may make a big decision in the future for crowds,if they can’t see anything M11 side of the control tower then you restrict viewing and people may vote with their feet.
