Rudder Pedal Straps

Hi,

Does anyone know of a modern supply for the the elasticated rubber coated rudder pedal strap. I am after a suitable material for my Martinet pedal assembly.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Kind regards,

Tim

Tim,

If leather is an option perhaps a gents leather belt would provide sufficient material ? Cut to correct size, drill both ends and fix with plate washers.

Hello John,

Yes something along these lines would be suitable, I have the metal attachment lugs and these would just need to be attached to the replacement straps by three rivets and then reattached to the pedal casting.

Thanks

Hi Tim, were the originals Dunlop or Palmer?

Rob

Hi Rob,

The AP Schedule of Spare Parts has the item listed as Strap, toe Part Number A13141 which would appear to make it a bespoke Miles part. As such this limits the availability and a pragmatic solution may well be a leather or modern rubber strap.

Kind regards,

Tim

John / OneEighthbit,

Thank you for your replies and suggestions, it would appear that leather is an option and I will explore this in the short term.

Kind regards,

Tim

Does the AP by any chance say that a leather is an alternate? I know on the Horsa it says “dunlop rubber or leather” toe strap.

Only think I could think of is to do what John suggests and maybe dip canvas webbing in a rubber compound or paint it on in layers. Failing that – have you looked for rubber loading straps or paste board handles on eBay? They are pretty similar material, especially the straps.

No2 AACU

Couple of suggestions Tim:

Truck tyre inner tube from breakers yard, then cut to your pattern. If necessary glue rubber to existing or to new canvas or suitable material.

Bungee cord. Available in various diameters.
