Bf110 relic ID?

Hello all

Does anyone know what this item is? It appears to be a weight of some kind and is very heavy for its size ( 3 Kg). It measures approx 8″ long.
It originates from a BoB Bf110 if that’s any help!

Many thanks in advance..

Many thanks for letting me know. I did wonder why they were both the same size for two different aircraft types.

Definitely not an He111 rudder balance, Hurri109. Denis is right. It would be large curved piece of cast iron. The He111 elevator balance weights are simply a bar mounted in the leading edges. You have two Me110 rudder or elevator balance weights, one unfortunately with label saying it’s something else.

Umm…that looks entirely different from the Rudder Mass Balance I found at a Heinkel III crash site . No photo yet, its in the shed and late, will post a comparison tomorrow.

I’m leaning towards it being rudder balance too, thanks everybody. Out of interest here is another one, this time from a Heinkel He111. It’s almost identical in size and weight, so I guess they were generic to Luftwaffe aircraft.

Pretty sure it is rudder balance, but still a guess.

Yes.

100% on the provenance. I was there when found and knew he had it.

Hi Andy
You are indeed correct, label is Pats and from the Shopwyke House Bf110. I understand that not many parts were recovered from this site, so it’s a relic I’m very honoured to own, especially regarding its provenance.

Best regards
Jon..

That looks very familiar. I suspect ex-Pat Burgess collection? What does the label say?
