Gipsy engine advice needed.

Can anyone give us a little advice re Gipsy engine cylinder head dismantling.

We have compressed the valve springs and removed the split tapered collar’s, but we can’t get the spring top covers (top hat’s) off the top of the valve stems. Any advice from anyone?

We are also after a scrap Gipsy cyliner body and a pair of push rod tubes to make up a dummy cylinder to mount inside the cowling of our Chipmunk cockpit section.

Thanks in advance.

I agree with David.
Nothing but friction and maybe corrosion holding them on.

If you run out of luck in the U.K. I could get you static parts here in Canada, but the shipping costs are prohibitive.

There shouldn’t be anything now holding them on unless it’s corrosion . If it’s static copper drift on the stem of the valve after a dousing in boiling water should dislodge them .

Have you tried Vintage Engine Technology Ltd of Little Gransden? I believe they are Gipsy engine experts.
