Being unable to attend Shoreham airshow today or tomorrow, I am planning to go to the ‘Duxford Battle of Britain airshow’ later this year.
I have always enjoyed Duxford’s airshows that I have attended, but one thing that has lacked at any airshow I’ve been to so far is any large ground re-enactment, for example, I do not recall any large scramble re-enactment at Dux for the BoB 70th, also Duxford seems to never incorporate any pyrotechnics or any major airfield attack sequences such as at the likes of I believe Shoreham, or on a far grander scale Omaka’s ‘Classic Fighters show’
I know the latter is pretty much impossible to match on an airfield like Duxford, but why do they, as far as I recall, have little if any re-enactment/pyrotechnic features?

Fairford had some nice Pyros this year. For something different how about tank fest? I was very impressed but the battle re-enactment and sound of the cannons firing.
Was also a Seaking and Spitfire display.

No area, as mentioned, to lay out pyros? – larger airfields can probably do this style of ‘flash, bang, wallop’ display as they have large areas of grass along/between the runways that are not used as active runways.
Also, I suspect the crop damage from a few years ago, caused by a wayward firework, has put paid to anything involving “explosions”…
Mind you, a few loud bangs at Legends might help drown out M. Chabbert…

That’s a point, wouldn’t want to cause a nuisance to the car-borne hoardes.
Still it’s a pity, some lines of mock bullet hits at least wouldn’t cause too much of a bother, surely?

Setting off pyrotechnics near a bust motorway probably isn’t a good idea 😀

Operationally its harder to put on at DX due to the close proximity of the grass runway and military vehicles driving on it would not be good, as for Pyros, they can damage the surface and would need to be the south side of the main runway which can be used for visiting aircraft on display days.
