Stapme Stapleton's Spitfire – 5th September 1940

Does anyone happen to know the serial of the Spitfire flown by Stapme on the day he shot down Franz von Werra?

This picture seems to show an N-numbered serial, but it’s too indistinct, and I’ve not managed to find a decent reference on Google.

Have you tried the National Archives? The Squadron record books are likely available to download for a nominal fee and could well contain the info.
