Hanriot HD 41H Type 1?

I am pretty sure I caught a Hanriot HD 41H here. But what does this fat “Type 1” on the vertical rudder mean?

Thank you for helping! The picture is from the “Batman 60” Flickr account.

Thank you for your answers, friends! So I am going to store the thing as Hanriot HD 17 E2.

Best regards, RT

Yes, I think this is in fact an HD.17 E2 from ‘les Écoles de pilotage de Berre et d’Hourtin’ (1922 – 1926) No 1 was ‘” un numéro de série connu” See Lucien Morareau “Les Aeronefs de l’Aviation Maritime’ page183.

Hi Mothminor,
splendid idea! Thanks! Guess you’re right with Hanriot HD-17!

The rudder looks like French markings with the anchor and red/white/blue vertical stripes. I think that Greece at that time used blue/white/blue. Is it possible that some or at least one HD41H was operated by the French before being sold abroad?

What I also wondered was is it instead an uncowled HD17?

…an additional thought: comparison of the vertical stabilisers/rudders of the three operating countries
Maybe RT’s photo is from a Greece aircraft…

Hi RT,
first I want to thank you for sharing this image!
Guess there is some paint shopping in the water around the left float! But nevertheless a nice image!

To your question: 12 HD 41H were built by Hanriot (mainly for Greece and Portugal) with a Salmson 9AC 120hp engine
and 10 HD 41H in licence by Zmaj with a Walter Mars 145hp engine.

In my tiny pic
you can see an example of the numbereing system by Hanriot, “H320 TYPE 1926” – No 1005
guess in your photo it means: “HD41 TYPE H” – but you can’t recognize any letter behind the word TYPE –
and the “1” is perhaps a serial number by the operator.

But maybe I’m wrong…
