Dear Forumites,
Yesterday I received an email from “Key Publishing” (I assume the email to be genuine) regarding a number of attempts to log into my forum account using an incorrect password/passwords. The email stated that a 15 minute lockout had been placed on the IP address holder.
Assuming the email to be genuine I can only think that the IP address holder had some mischievous intent. Is this an isolated case or is it something we all need to be much more aware of?
As a precautionary measure I have reviewed my account and upgraded the password!
My regards to all,
WF

My dear chap before the web my paranoia was fed by the voices in my head but now it is also being fed by the voices in my computer – this has confused me utterly to the point where I now no longer know who to believe.

Hi Forumites,
I found your replies to my original post interesting. It is all too easy to allow a degree of paranoia to run rampant in these situations. However my thoughts have turned to the areas in which one can influence account security, be it on the “Flypast Forum” or any other aspect of your on line activities. Consequently I suggest the use of a little commonsense together with the advice of experts and ensure that strong passwords are used, even if these require a few more keystrokes.
Regards
WF
Here ends the lesson, back to enjoying life!

It’s not uncommon at the moment. Change passwords if you need to. Otherwise ignore it.
If your account has been hacked, and you can’t get in, let us know, and we will do what we can to help.

My fear is that a hacker won’t understand the forum code of conduct. Imagine a forum without all the sniping…

I had one at the weekend, too.

Me too – back at the end of March – I think the IP address was in Indonesia. Maybe one of the moderators could comment? This seems to be more than an isolated incident.

I got one, but couldn’t understand the appeal of a semi-lurking Kiwi’s account to any hacker!!

I had a similar message about 2 months ago, the IP address of the perpetrator appeared to be somewhere in China.
