Sea Hawk Nose wheel help

We at GAM are trying to track down a replacement nose wheel assembly for our Hawker Sea Hawk, currently the rim has serious corrosion causing it to split and the valve has been damaged which is preventing it from being inflated.

This was Peter Vallance’s first aircraft he purchased and we would like to have it mobile again so we can tow it into the new museum building in the next few months. If anyone has one or can help by way of a contact of someone who does please let us know.

The wheel has the ident AH93Y on it and the tyre size is 17 1/2 x 5.5 – 7 1/2

Brilliant !! Well done guys. Great to see that Nosewheel and tyre fitted and the roll-in to new building done. Very impressive building too. Few beers must have been had last night.

Went through your face book page and great info and pics. posted, especially the ones of the old wheel and tyre. I see what you mean now, crumbly is one word I can think of. :very_drunk: All the best for the future.

Indeed. GAM is going from strength to strength and this new display hall is a credit to all involved. Will definitely be visiting again next year!

Yesterday saw a great achievement at Gatwick Aviation Museum, after many years our aircraft have finally started to come indoors. With great thanks to Bill Turnbull (WV-903) in supplying a new nose wheel assembly it was very fitting that the first aircraft to be towed in was our Hawker Sea Hawk, Peter Vallance’s first purchase in the collection. Without Bill’s help we would not have been able to achieve this and we are greatly thankful.

Below are a couple of pictures of the tow, or please visit https://www.facebook.com/Gatwick-Aviation-Museum-183094805077755

Hi, it was a Wyvern tail wheel (looks the same though).

There was one on a stall at Old Sarum yesterday! Several people were discussing it but no one appeared to recognise it. The combination of what appers to be a hinge on the edge and a hole with a clip for a fuse were distinctive features. The venor had his back to the Wasp helicoper so should be identifiable. That said it didn’t look in any better condition than yours.

Hi D 747,
I’ve still got 2 Nose Wheels and one Nose Tyre (One wheel is New Old Stock. all are in good condition) left over from my days of owning WV-903. You are most welcome to any combination of these. Have sent you a PM.
