I suppose the CH-46 is now considered historic. Could anyone tell me if any are officially still in service as I thought they had all been replaced in US Marine Corps service by the Osprey by this year. A friend of mine took this photo in Virginia earlier today.

HMX-1 has completely converted to the MV-22.
(apart from the VH-3 and VH-60s)

Does HMX-1 (presidential flight) still operate their Ch46s or have they now gone all V-22 Osprey?
Sorry slight drift from the original USMC question.

You probably saw a transfer flight or something. It’s not because a type is out of service that they never fly again. Several types have flown into storage/recycling/museum/… long after their out of service date.

None operating outside the U.S. now with the military but Marines due to retire their last few later this year. Columbia and the US State Dept believed to still be operating them in Afghanistan on support missions and Columbia have a fleet of ex US commercial and Swedish 107 s on logging, firefighting and similar heavy lift work.

The Saudi Arabian (Army or Security Forces)? had some and they did appear on TV some years ago when there was some trouble somewhere in the country. I can’t remember when that was…

After the USMC retires theirs, I suppose Columbia will still have some flying.IIRC, they have the highest time BV/KV-107, one that used to be part of the New York Airways fleet that deposited people to the top of the Pan AM building in NYC. They also own the type certificates for the 107 and 234 (civil Chinook) helicopters.
I believe all their fleet is ex-commercial/foreign. But because their fleet is standardized to allow commercial passenger carrying operations (even though most of their work is logging/firefighting and construction), I don’t believe they have, or can use, any ex-U.S. military aircraft.
Are any in use outside the US? Japan had many (built by Kawasaki) and they sold several to the mid-East.
