Hi Guys.
Apologies for another Spitfire question but does anyone know where I could obtain the forward datum longerons as drawing 30027-905-906 from? Or if they could put me in touch with anyone who could make them. I don’t know the complexities of making these as I know nothing about bending metal!
Thanks for any help.

Hi Cornovil,
You could try phoning Chris Mitchell at Airframe Assemblies to see if we have some. You dont say whether Static or for flight ! We may have some suitable for static purposes. If for flight then we could suppy these also.

Cornovii I might know someone in Long Eaton may be able to help, about 15 miles from Derby.

You could try Mike Eastman, posts on here as Firebex. Or if you want I can PM his email address.

Edgar
Thanks very much for your reply but it’s the longerons I need making. I have the 30027 905/906 drawing but they are not something I can make myself. I have no idea about bending metal especially something with a curve in it!

The RAF Museum has it, under reference MAC 433, and I have a copy, on computer, if you get stuck..

If you can find a good sheetmetal shop with a Pressbrake they can form up the .063″ into the proper hatsection. Then use a small Hyd or Arbor press to gently curve it and joggle the back section.
