They could try tethering it like Hawker did with the prototype P 1127.
Not a good idea …

Absolutely, that would be the way to do it, it would have to be a short tether to avoid losing control. As far as I’m aware it is a purely manual control system with no gyro stabilisation.

I wonder when the temptation to hover it will get the better of them?!

I would like to think that one day we will see a UK based Harrier on the airshow circuit.
It must surely rank as one of the all time great British aircraft 😎
My heart agrees but my mind says “no chance”!!:)
Without a doubt!

I don’t have a FB account, and it wouldn’t let me view it on the phone, but I can on the laptop, don’t know why though.

I know what you mean but really no different from watching any of the current selection of fast taxi events at Bruntingthorpe, YAM and elsewhere. It would be great to see these birds fly again but they never will, so…….:apologetic:

Lovely sight and sound, but I could help thinking it was like watching a fish flapping around on land. 🙁

It says Bridgenorth on the link and it was yesterday, Laurent.
Bridgnorth is a town in Shropshire, England, situated on the Severn Valley. It is split into High Town and Low Town, named on account of their elevations relative to the River Severn, which separates … Wikipedia

Can’t see it either. Just get a log on page. Have a look on UKAR, search for half penny green and you’ll find a link to see them starting her up in a shed. One of the visiting fly in pilots dropped in on his way home from the fly in

The RAF were very happy to see them retired, as they were replaced by the far more capable GR5s
True , but I think you know that was meant – we are speaking of the Harrier, generically.:)

Just for the record, can’t see it either. Sounds like an achievement though. Well done to them!

I’d rather watch six and a half minutes of a Harrier taxiing around a field than some of the dross that seems to be posted on the interwebnetland….
True Bob but at least we can chose whether or not to watch the dross!!;)
The RAF probably never wanted it scrapped in the first place did they?
By: Mike J - 25th April 2015 at 10:19
I wonder how long that engine will last before they FOD it
By: Junk Collector - 25th April 2015 at 10:10
I bet the RAF could do with it back now, they will need it after the election and the winners inevitable Defence Spending Review, to provide funding for vanity projects

You do on mine. So it must be the case for others also. I get a login screen each time I select that link.
I managed to watch most of the (long) video without having to log in; I don’t do Facebook!

Thanks Strato, your link worked a treat!;) Stunning – great to hear that whine again and the memories of one of our best pieces of military equipment!!
