For those who knew the Dukes of Hazzard TV show.
James Best (born Jewel Franklin Guy; July 26, 1926 – April 6, 2015) was an American actor, who in six decades of television is best known for his starring role as bumbling Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane in the CBS television series The Dukes of Hazzard. He also worked as an acting coach, artist, college professor, and musician.
He joined the Army Air Force in 1945 and was qualified as a B-17 “Flying Fortress” Radio Operator/Aerial Gunner and served in Europe at the end of WWII. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and German Occupation Medal.

But, alas, not entirely correct. Despite what you may read on line – War History On Line in particular. Having trained as a gunner towards the end of the war, there was an over supply of gunners at that point in the war and he remustered as a military policeman in Germany. Hence the German Occupation Medal. He was a victim of the film studio system which tended to overplay some actors war time records. Jack Palance was another, allegedly he was on B24s and had his face rebuilt after a crash. Years later he said it was all bull put about by the studios and taken up by a gullible press.

Thanks for posting the military connection, but I guess that for a man of his age we shouldn’t be surprised.
He did some very good work long before the DoH (which I was too old to watch :)). I occasionally see him in old shows that are now shown on various networks.
RIP, Sheriff…say “Hi” to Flash for me.

Nor I.
It’s why I posted it here and not in General Discussion.
