I don’t think anybody made a film in 1925 with an eye toward the idiocy that currently passes for April Fool’s Day foolishness.

Putnams Avro Aircraft quotes a max range of 625 miles for the Aldershot III with the RR Condor engine. This was the only production version with 15 ordered for 99 Sqdn.

The Avro Putnam says that range was 625 miles and bomb load up to 2,000 lbs. Seems a little more realistic.

Also mentions that “….made a downwind pass at an estimated 140mph”, so the figures for cruising speed of 92mph and max of 110mph might also be more realistic.

We’ll never know but they were clearly optimists in 1925!!

Five tons of bombs for 3,000 miles!!

It’s as likely to have done that as it is to have busted the Mach. A B-17 couldn’t come anywhere near those numbers.

That’s an incredible beast. What is the whole story? It looks as though it was designed for passengers as well. Five tons of bombs for 3,000 miles!!

Presumably filmed at Hamble? There’s an aircraft carrier (Glorious or Formidable) in the background towards the end.

Never heard of it! What a brute of an aircraft but leaps into the air.
