By chance there’s a photo of it for auction currently (back in the 50s at Rollasons, Croydon, I’d wager)

put the letters GATO in the GAVS civil register photo archive http://gavs.it/rci.php and you get lots of pics…I’ve a notion it’s been rebuilt before?

More usually the second of those options, the designer thinking it makes the page flow better.

An air-air shoot that ran into trouble?

”It was a miracle that they have suffered only bruises and abrasions . According to early investigations, the aircraft would be lowered to allow the driver and passenger to photograph a second vintage aircraft, a three-engine “Caproni” of the ’30s. During this operation would impact a plant with one wing no longer able to take off again.

At first it was thought the worst. The impact with the ground was quite violent, so much so that the biplane was completely crumpled on a grassy plain. Both occupants were extracted by firefighters who rushed to the spot. For the measurements were made by the police. Pilot and passenger were transported to the emergency room for treatmnt.

Well, I sometimes think: If I had been a pilot, would I have crashed by now? Let’s hope the occupants have a quick recovery.

On the subject of backwards pictures, it seems to happen more often than one might expect (and even sometimes in the aviation press). I see two possible main reasons. First, perhaps it is simply a mistake. Secondly, perhaps the layout editor thought the picture looked better that way round. If you study printed pages with a critical eye, you soon notice that pictures can be not only flipped horizontally (in a non-aviation context, you might get a particular picture one way round in one place and the other way round somewhere else), but also squashed out of proportion to fit the space available. But I am going on too much…

That sucks.
I hope the folks have a speedy recovery.
What’s left of the Tiger looks a horrible mess. That won’t be speedy.

I wonder why the picture is printed backwards?
