Evening all, I’ve come across the acronym “DGRD” on a Hurricane Form 78, as in “DGRD Langley” and “DGRD Boscombe Down”. The aircraft then spent some time at the AFDU in March 1941 so probably at Duxford (?) before joining No. 242 Sqdn at Martlesham Heath in April 1941.
I guessing it may stand for “Director General Research & Development” but am happy to stand corrected if anyone can supply the real meaning!
Thanks in advance.

Thanks chaps, interesting thing is I’ve just established that one of the surviving Hurricanes is a bona fide Mk IIC prototype 🙂

A bit of Googling and mostly comes up with Director General of Research and Development
Spitfire P8273 was being operated by the Director General of Research and Development, Airframe and Armament Experimental Establishment at Farnborough when it crashed after completing a high altitude test flight.
