I would be grateful if anyone can tell me anything about the attached picture of a Bristol Fighter. The Picture was given to me many years ago by an elderly family friend and was apparently taken at RAF Eastmoor (the forerunner to RAF Driffield). I would like to establish the identity of the aircraft and the significance of the word “MUFFS” . There appears to be some small writing above the word MUFFS but too small to make out the words unfortunately.
Many thanks

The small lettering is standard stencilling, “This machine must not be flown without passenger or equivalent weight in gunners cockpit”. Similar wording on RE.8s too.

My guess is that its a 22 Squadron aircraft as they had a single code letter aft of the roundel, but its only a guess. I’ll see if I can find out more.
