FW190 in flying condition in Europe ?

They are very flexible with the term ‘airliner!’

Interesting they intend to replace theASh engine with a R-2800 (same as the Frasca one at Chino). BTW Jerry Yagen bought the one formerly owned by Bob Russell, with engine and cowling off a Tu-2.

The Tri-State Warbird Museum in Ohio also have a Flug Werk kit, but have presumably been fully occupied fixing their P-40M after its forced landing

I think it was mentioned on WIX that the silver example has had a belly landing/gear collapse more recently and is again under repair. I think the green one in Nowotny colours is stored at Manching?

Hi everybody, I have been away at my gf´s, no internet access for 2 weeks to relax 😉 . Back to topic: AFAIK the green Flugwerk one (reg. D-FWJS) was (is??) based at Manching. It was built by Flugwerk for a German customer, and flown several (at least 2 or 3 times) by Klaus Plasa out of Manching. Sadly the owner who ordered this a/c deceased before he got his plane delivered or could fly it. There was a rumour it was (is?) up for sale by the family, but nothing official about that. I have no info about who owns it now, but I suspect it is still with the family of the original owner, but that is only my personal guess. It might still be at Manching, but I have no proof of this either. So in fact I can not add any info about it. Regarding the ex-French one that ditched in the Mediterranian, it is at MeierMotors workshop, owned by Hangar10. But as they have several Bf 109 projects under rebuilt there (G-6, G-12 conversion) I would be surprised if the 190 project will be started this year. When I visited MeieMotors in July, I took the pics below. No work has done on it in the meantime IMHO.

Impressive listing ! There we see that thanks to Klaus colling the FW190 is a possible sight in world skies, but not so common…

Yes there is. The last pictures I saw of her certainly didn’t look far off completion.

I think they also have/had a Spitfire.

Just to re-clarify, my list is limited to only those which have already flown at some point, and includes those which are currently down for repairs and are being worked on at this time to be returned to flight.

There is the ex-Tom Blair Flugwerk FW-190D-9 owned by Jerry Yagen, which was taxi-tested, but has never flown. It has been mentioned in the past that the desire/plan for it is to have it re-engined with a Jumo. Speaking of which, I wonder how the Flugwerk FW-190D-9 in Belgium is getting along, owned by the Vormezeele family? The plan for that one has also always been reported to be to complete it with a Jumo engine as well, and it is listed on the “Fast Aero” website as being worked on. The Vormezeele’s I believe also have a Hawker FB.10 Fury, a Buchon, a Fiat G.46, a Harvard, and the Hawker Hurricane AM274 that was under restoration with John Norman.

The only flight-capable FW-190 in Europe at this time is the privately-owned Flugwerk example D-FWJS, also based in Germany, painted in Nowotny markings, but I don’t believe its been publicly sighted flying since about 2010/2011. As mentioned, the former French-based example, F-AZZJ, is in store at MeierMotors, pending rebuild.

Speaking of 190’s, here are all of the Fw-190’s (original) and FW-190’s (Flugwerk) which have flown in recent years, and either are currently operational or are receiving attention to fly again soon.

The “Silverfish” is under repair after the gear failure in Braunschweig. I think it is the first gear collapse of this aircraft. The reason for the previous repair was a structural problem. The other one in Germany is the French example which was sold to Heringsdorf. It is awaiting it´s recovery after the ditching. The repairs will be done by Meier Motors. (If they have time for it)
