As I promised in another thread …. I visited this, very good and informative, museum in June 2013 …. It’s almost like a walk through the ‘cold war era’ …. a series of photos in random order from the day ! …

Well the answer to my question has been sorted, on a different forum, the interesting piece of pipework, and photo in frame, is in fact from possibly the last remaining parts of …. the BLUE STREAK missile project ! see below …

She is wonderfully significant in the history of the type in the U.K
Absolutely agree which is why I gifted to Solway many years ago when it was at risk of becoming a children’s plaything.
Thanks to Bill Fern from South Yorks for collecting the airframe on a Hiab and taking it to Carlisle as part of a three way swap which resulted in a few other bits moving round to various museums

The Whirlwind has been repainted since then and is now resplendent in a ‘midnight blue’ Royal Navy guise . And very nice it looks too !
