Royal Air Force Comforts Committee flying gloves

I thought the attached photo might be of some interest. These are from the period patterns issued by the RAF Comforts Committee in the museum at East Kirkby, knitted in the closest to RAF blue wool that SWMBO could find.

Has anyone ever come across period examples, or can comment on how useful they might have been in the air?
