Blenheim airborne at Duxford

Duxford Wednesday 19th November.

Late this afternoon as the sun was about to set below the horizon the wonderful sight of Duxfords Blenheim restoration making its first recorded taxy.

Film of the Blenheim flying today can be found here: http://youtu.be/27P3o0jAUSs

Sorry it’s a little shaky, i did try smoothing it out in edit but for some reason it went very grainy so i have reverted to the original footage with no wobble correction. If i can sort out the wobble i will re-upload when i get time. Enjoy!

Hi Strata sorry o lunch just seen your comment. Hmm it obviously works ok for me, is anybody else having trouble?
Can only suggest accessing it by sear hung within Facebook for the Blenheim Society group and hopefully get in that way. Cannot say I get on very well with Facebook so do not fully understand how to navigate it.

Blenheim was flying today. Flew over my place about 10 mins ago (12.15ish), went round in circuits for a good 10 mins allowing me ample time to grab video camera and get some reasonable footage. I will upload to youtube tonight if anyone is interested. What an absolute treat!

Even logging in with Facebook will not make this link work I’m afraid… :apologetic:

I think the 2 Mossies’ and Blenheim flew together the day before the Biggin show but the B35 went technical for the show

I remember it in ’87 at Biggin Hill as Sally B in green with the yellow tail, G-MKIV in glossy brown/green and RS712 in the excellent cammo paint job but with white codes. The formation was re-enacted in the ’90’s with Sally B, RR299 and G-BPIV in Black.

Getting back to more recent events, I watched the on-board go-pro cockpit footage of L6739/G-BPIV today. It’s really good and the landing is un-noticeable as far as camera vibration is concerned. Not bad for someone who hadn’t flown it for 11 years! Sorry to say the file size is gigantic and not available to view. There were indeed a large contingent of twitchers on the fence-line today, they must have got very cold waiting to get those Stearman and JP shots!

I remember in 1987 the Blenheim flew with RR299 and Kermit Weeks Mossie at Biggin Hill .Not sure if it was on an airshow day or before but I vividly recall them flying over our house, I was a very please 13 year old that day.

So did we have two Mossies airworthy in the UK in 87?
Now, that would have made an interesting formation.

Didn’t the ’87 Biggin formation include Kermit Weeks’ Mosquito? Or are my grey cells getting eroded by age?

Wasn’t the B17, Blenheim, Mosquito formation 1987. One of the Blenheim’s few appearances
before it’s first crash? She didn’t fly again until 95. The Mossie was lost in 96.

It was 87 of course. I scrambled the date for some reason

It did not have time for may appearances, Biggin, Church Fenton (I think) Denham obviously, maybe a few others.

I was shocked to witness the Denham incident, and to see it was going to go very wrong about 10 seconds before it stuffed in. I remember seeing the starboard wing arc through the air as it cartwheeled. I took this photo as the Lanc thundered low overhead, hence the people looking up.

When it comes to pictures we are blessed with fellow forumites who not only give their time but also choose to share their professional standard work with us on an almost daily basis. I, along with many others I am sure, are most grateful and very appreciative of their contributions. Cannot recall the phrase I am looking for but something like “quality is worth waiting for.”

Rang a bell, found this pic that I scanned earlier this year. Can’t oblige with a Lanc in shot (thinks; did that ever happen ?). You’ll have to make do with a B17. Biggin, I think. Apologies for the poor quality.

That pic would be at Biggin in ’94 or perhaps ’95, the Mosquito has the 50th anniversary D-Day stripes. The Biggin shows used to put on some amazing bomber formations in the early 90’s, ’92 had B17, B24 (Dimaond Lil, visiting from USA), B25 and Mosquito, and then for the next two or three years the Blenheim flew in place of the B24. As I remember it, the Lanc never flew in the formation but it was usually the next slot after the civvy-owned bombers.

Congratulations to all the Blenheim crew, I don’t mean to take their thread off on too much of a tangent!

I think they did that at Biggin in ”89, with the Fortress also. All my photos are in deep storage I am afraid..

Wow, what a fantastic sight! Didn’t expect her to be flying so quick! Hope I get to see her flying in the “flesh” during next year, cant recall ever seeing any of her previous incarnations.

Absolutely superb to finally see her in the air after all this time. Now all they need is some lovely weather for some air to air photography. No doubt we will see a massive article in the next but one issue of Flypast. Can’t wait to get over to Duxford for some Blenheim action.

Stepwilk-I believe Oily Rag was referring to a much earlier post by someone else concerning the two previous accidents-he wasn’t talking about you!
