Bourgas 1993

Does anyone have any information on some aircraft seen at Bourgas airport, Bulgaria in August 1993 please? Apart from normal airliner traffic there were several Let Cmelak lined up and several “wrapped up” Antonov transports and AN-2s which were presumably in outside storage there plus a single C-130.
Cheers,
Jim

I don’t know, but I suspect not.

The products being packed were all granular materials going into 50kg bags and FIBCs (not liquids for spraying) IIRC it was ammonium nitrate.

I wonder if the fertiliser was connected with the lineup of Cmelaks??

Whilst not specific to these transports, in 1987/88 I was involved in trying to import an ex-Bulgarian Air Force MiG from the Bourgas area, IIRC close to the airport.

This ultimately fell through due to some possible ‘contamination’ issues with the site adjacent to where they were due to be scrapped.

These airframes had come to my attention via the company I was working for installing some fertiliser packing equipment at a petrochemical complex near to the airport. However I’m not sure whether these airframes lasted into the 1990s.
