Mosquito Flying In UK 2015

Wishful thinking?

Mosquito for 2015 Air Shows

After great success of the Canadian Avro Lancaster’s visit to this year Air Show, OTS News.co.uk understands that plans are underway to bring a De Havilland Mosquito over to the UK for the 2015 flying season.

If this happens, the event will be like this year’s based with the RAFs Battle of Britain flight, and join the flight as they attend air shows.

Overall silver. There are plenty of pictures of it on the web I’d you Google ‘Mosquito CF-HML’ that confirm this. No idea on the fn stripe colour in that particular iteration of the Spartan Air Services Ltd scheme though.

Don’t quote me on this as I can’t remember where I got the idea from but I seem to recall that the fin stripe was red, but looking at that picture I’d say it was more likely to have been blue.

Depending on the configuration of the aircraft and fuel capacity, between 1,000 – 2,000 miles range, maybe more ?
I would have thought pilot fatigue a major factor. Unless the Canadian one is dual control.
You can’t exactly get up and stretch your legs in a Mosquito.

Saying that, there are a lot of smaller aircraft regularly ferried here.

Various sources quote different figures but how far was it from UK bases to Berlin and back? I’d say the range would have to be in excess of 800 miles.

Spartan Air Services where out of Ottawa Ontario Canada………I ‘d read they stocked up pretty well on ex RCAF warbirds……they flew all over the far north of Canada doing photo mapping, also in South America and even Africa……I’d speculate that that Mossie has seen some substantial flying all over……regardless, she is a very pretty lady……..
Seen here sporting the markings of B.35 VR 796 “F for Freddie”…what is though to have been the highest Mission Tally Mossie ever….unfortunately lost in Calgary Alberta Canada in a stupid and unfortunate accident on VE day…..

The engine and prop are there, you can just make out the vertical prop blade lining up perfectly with the center of the hangar door join.

What colours was the Mosquito painted in that picture?
Would make an interesting model.

The canadian example displayed at the Abbotsford Airshow back in August, so it has flown more than was made out at the time of its first flight.

Didn’t both the Strathallen and Warbirds of GB Mossies fly across the Atlantic?

Trying to avoid excessive subtlety this time, surely any flyable Mosquito is too precious to fly the Atlantic regardless of the practicality. If one of the two engines went out half way across a wide expanse of ocean, it could be a bit dicey for crew and aircraft.

People were casting doubt about whether the Canadian one would be flown much. I don’t know whether it has since it’s restoration, but I was assuming it would be Yagen’s for that reason.

I would say this must be about the Yagen Mosquito, and I can add she is worth seeing in the air. Thought I would never see one fly in the USA, and yes I think there was always the desire to bring it to the UK for a few shows. Jerry and his team have done a great job. The Yagen Mosquito was restored in NZ, test flown in NZ and then knocked down into two shipping containers. She was up and flying pretty quickly after arriving in Virginia Beach from NZ. 2 weeks maybe? Just like a big 1:1 Airfix kit right? I am aware of one significant cross country to the Hamilton, Ontario show in the summer of 2012.

The timeframe for reassembly is covered in the WONZ thread that I linked to in post #31, but that sounds about right.

If, If it happens….I am thinking it is the Canadian B35, and not Jerry Yagens !

Considering that the first one was only delivered to the RAF this week, I’d say not.

Isn’t the A400M getting rather old now?

It would be a good test for the new A400M!

I’m looking forward to this already. Not sure whether it’s dual control or not, or if it’s at all possible to get it over with a C130, but there must be some efficient way of doing it.

totally agree with you

Here’s a photo of VR796 during it’s time with Spartan Air Services as CF-HML, with starboard prop or engine removed. Sorry for the poor quality of the image, but the registration on the tail can be seen.
