Sywell Aviation Museum holds occasional evening talks during the winter months to raise funds for the Museum.
Dornier from The Seabed – 3rd November 2014 Sywell Aviation Museum presents a talk by Darren Priday, Manager, Michael Beetham Conservation Centre, RAF Museum Cosford. A fascinating glimpse into the huge undertaking that saw the RAF Museum recover the world’s only surviving Dornier 17z bomber from the seabed. Werke Nummer 1160 was shot down on 26th August 1940 by Defiants of 264 Sqn RAF and remained there until its recovery in June 2013. For the first time the inside story of the recovery will be told, the challenges overcome, the items discovered and the conservation work undertaken culminating in the plans to display this unique Battle of Britain survivor at the RAF Museum. The Flight of Rudolf Hess – 5th January 2015 Sywell Aviation Museum presents a talk by John Harris. On 10th May 1941, Hitler’s Deputy, Rudolf Hess made a daring and bizarre flight to Scotland to attempt to broker peace with the British Government. Shrouded in secrecy for many years, John Harris, co-author of the book Rudolf Hess: A new Technical Analysis of the May 1941 Flight, will look at the context of the flight, the navigation aids required, why the Messerschmitt Bf 110 was chosen to complete it and what went wrong.
