CWHM Lancaster Flight, Humberside, 19 August 2014

Mention it as many times as you like David. Not that many people got to fly in her. It’s great that you can share the experience.

Why ever not! Indulge us do…,.! If we weren’t there ourselves we can at least savour it through those who were.

The guy second left, was a former Flight Engineer who flew 30 operations with 166 Squadron from RAF Kirmington, now Humberside Airport. His longest mission was to Danzig/Gdansk. A trip of 9 hours. This was his first time back in a Lanc since. Was a privilege to say I flew with a veteran.
And I promise I will not mention this flight again!

Thank you VERY MUCH!! What an experience!:eagerness: I can imagine you were on a high for a long while after touchdown. I don’t know many you lucky few were but you are now a member of a pretty select club, to be sure.

You won’t forget that flight for a long time, that’s for sure!

This is the take off from Humberside. I recorded it for the sound as I’d been asked to take part in a local radio show here on the Costa Del Sol to talk about the flight when I got home. This was played as part of that show.
Keefy041, regarding hours on an operation on Lancs, I have a story from the day regarding this point which I’ll post at some point.

Cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to spend 8+ hours in such a machine.
How one could concentrate on navigation, looking for the enemy or a target in the pitch black with such a constant noise !
Big respect to all of those guys.

It’s does look good doesn’t it, shame about all those guys in the cockpit cluttering up your view of the panel etc 😉
