It’s not that good. I saw it years ago on late night TV.
William Holden is the star….James Garner plays the third pilot on the left or somesuch. 🙂

Nice color shots of Edwards Air Force Base, home of the USAF Flight Test Center.
The Martin XB-51 (which lost the completion to the Canberra) is featured as a fighter prototype. Also seen is the Bell X-2 and lots of other neat stuff.

Oh well, never mind. I shall keep an eye out for the 1956 version.
50’s jets and James Garner would have been a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Just looked up on IMDB
The test pilot film is titled Towards the Unknown & the above titled film was made in 1979.
An email of complaint might be on its way to Sky

Not quite how my TV guide describes it….. Two different films???

(15:00 – 17:20, Action Adventure) Exquisite cinematography illuminates this adaptation of Walter Farley’s novel about a boy’s bond with a spirited horse.
Kelly Reno, Mickey Rooney, Teri Garr, Clarence Muse, Hoyt Axton
