Interview with Jonathan Pote

The latest Wings Over New Zealand Show episode is online as of tonight and I am sure many British members of this forum will very much enjoy it. There’s a fair bit of early UK preservation and also Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm content in this story.

“Episode 72 – Jonathan Pote” is a very interesting interview with doctor and pilot Jonathan Pote who has led an amazing life. We hear his memories from plane spotting as a child in Devon and wreck hunting in the hills as a teen, to his part in the group that saved many important British aircraft from the scrapper including Lancaster “Just Jane”, a Seafire 47 and the Fleet Air Arm Museum’s Walrus.

We also hear about his flying with Air America while a medic in 1960’s Laos; working for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland; volunteering with the Queensland Air Museum and the New Zealand Bomber Command Association; his Search and Rescue operations in Devon; his combat hospital work in the First Gulf War; meeting veterans and VC winners, living in New Zealand and much more.

Here’s the new episode, I hope you all enjoy Jonathan’s memories as much as I have.

Thanks for the new (working) link. Brought back great memories….I also remember the Exeter TT Mosquitos flying over Plymouth and Torpoint…and used to pass the Paradise Road Civil Defence site with the Sea Hornet propped up in it, every day on the bus ride to school. My father was AEO of 831 at Culdrose when they still operated Avengers alongside the ECM Sea Venoms…happy weekends at the station sitting in the a/c, when not sitting under the approach on the Helston road watching Skyraiders, Gannets, Brigands, Neptunes, Shacks, Sea Balliols, Vixens, Vampires, Venoms and Scimitars….and assorted USAF and NATO visitors.

I have no idea why you chaps cannot get it open, I just asked a mate if he can and he says it opens fine for him too.

However you can also access the episode here at the host site
