Hello everyone,
I wanted to update those who are interested about all the developments at Bottisham Airfield Museum.
Firstly, as of yesterday, we now have a place we can call home – namely, the last wartime buildings left standing within the old airfield’s perimeter. This comes as a huge relief for all concerned with the museum, after a couple of very challenging years. There has been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to arrange this and ultimately it’s come about because of a local benefactor who was able to secure the site for us.
The museum’s collection is still located at the Bottisham branch of the Royal British Legion for now, until we can prepare our new buildings. The initial phase of work is to erect a 42ft nissen hut back where it was during the 1940’s and also prepare the smallest of the war-time buildings for museum use.
After that, it’ll be a case of rolling up our sleeves and tackling the rest of the buildings – a massive undertaking not least because of the asbestos roofs and the fact that for the past 20 years the site has been used as a smokery so a smokey, fishy smell lingers somewhat.
A new website went live this evening:
http://www.bottishamairfieldmuseum.org.uk
And it’ll be updated, as will our facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/bottishamairfieldmuseum/) and our twitter stream (@BottishamAirMus)
Finally, we are holding an open day on the 28th September to show off our new museum site and our plans for it – all are welcome between 11am and 4pm, we’re planning a good selection of military vehicles, re-enactors, exhibits from our collection, a mini-airshow of wartime aircraft (be there to watch a P-51 display over the airfield site, weather and serviceability permitting). There will be a tombola where you can win some aviation and bottisham-related things and a special beer, Lakepress (named after Bottisham’s call-sign) has also been produced for the day.
If anyone on here would like to get involved with the museum and our big plans for the future, please do get in contact with me.
Cheers for now!

Looking forward to meeting you John – do come and say hello, I’ll probably be on the Museum stand, running the tombola and hawking beer with my other half…
