It has been since 2002 when the two DC-4’s came to North Weald for a film and they have not been used.
Ever since then they have sat at North Weald and enjoyed the British weather.
Does anyone know if they are ever going to get up & fly or go to some museum ??
If they don’t they will be scrapped as the corrosion will be setting in.
Some choices for them;- Buffalo Airways buys them or Atlantic Airlines for them to go to the Museum
Some preservation Museum has them or they get restored to taxi or maybe they should go to Bruntingthorpe so they can join other types.

Walter Mitty appears to be alive and well.

Neither of them have been sold…
And from what im told, there are large holes in the airframe and certainly in no state for a return to flight.
So in a nutshell. Hopefully this post won’t disappear?

Adam West ! Your input and recent purchase has raised a new hope for 2015 that I rather thought was not going to happen ! Thank you !
Keith 🙂
Nice to see the Caped Crusader come to the rescue!

Well there’s a handy production break in the wings just outboard of the engines if a road tow is required 🙂

Don’t think there’s any waterways near North Weald

I like that! Scotsforce One perhaps!
Not sure it is wide enough for the Big Yin.

Oh dear I thought these two old timers were heading for a brighter future, does anyone know who was conducting the work on them? There was another thread about them when we spoke of a flying memorial, does anyone know if they were sold a few years ago. Please lets not let these slip to the scrappie.

There was an old thread about the sale of the North Weald DC-4s here
It does seem to have gone quiet but the Facebook page links still work and Airventure do seem to have been very busy so maybe the DC-4 project has gone to the back of the queue for now. Let’s hope something gets done soon and this rather sad saga has a happy outcome.

Thanks Paul, I do hope that I am not responsible for any DC-4 fans north of the border voting yes in the hope that this could happen !!

Looking at the Urban Explorers visit 2 years ago. I fear that they are fit only for scrap unless someone with deep pockets can be found.

What an attractive pair of grand old ladies!
I’d love to be involved with re-locating one to Liverpool (I’m thinking about the practicalities of doing so as I write).
Anon.

Just as an aside, they appeared in the background in a James May programme about popular post war cars a couple of weeks ago.

I would like to think that one would be suited to Duxford, maybe as an outside walk through exhibit?
To go along with the display of the “world beating” Hermes? 🙂

One would be relevant to Cosford and the Cold War Exhibition I would have thought, even in USAF colours – although one in SEAC marking pretending to be KL978 would float my boat!

Believe one of them had engine runs a year or so ago.
The plan was to build on this and get the aircraft restored to taxiable condition. However it’s all gone quiet over the last few months.

FWIW, I visited North Weald in June and took these two photos of the subject matter……
