Draw an East/West line across the south coast of France and it could be anywhere south of theat. The RAF always seemed to be more willing to issue KD in the Med/Middle East than the Army. Poor old squaddies had to suffer Temperate climate uniforms. In Cyprus we were only issued No 6 dress for the visits of high ranking officers, all other posh dress jobs were in No 2 dress. If we wanted comfortable lightweight working dress we had to buy locally for ourselves.

Rhodesia used them offensively too, but my money is on an Omani example as evidenced by the Khaki Drill uniform the subject is wearing.

The original photo distinctly shows two rockets under the right wing, similar to the setup that Moggy posted. So it might have been an Omani, armed variant of the Piston Provost then.

If my recollection is right they were either fitted with only one or at best two and against hoards of wild tribesmen that would probably be about as effective as trying to bring an elephant down with a pea shooter.

Saw them in the M.U. at Khormaksar in 1961 ,being fitted with .303 machine guns.

It’s a Percival ‘Piston Provost’ elementary trainer. Not a carrier or front line aircraft.
