I see that sale is marked pending, heard a rumour that this airplane is sold and is UK bound. Was lucky enough to see some of it’s initial test flights on 29 October 1999. No camera only there for lunch that day unfortunately so only have the memory- wonderful airplane. Enjoy it folks!

Firebird -the time before overhaul isn’t that set in stone. Engines don’t like being stored – engine handling can have a major effect on its life and failure of components can happen at any time. Having those hours left on it is no guarantee.

This is great to hear if true. Regardless of where it ends up I’d like to see it continue flying, but a UK-based Emil would be wonderful to see.
Not that I’d get to see it in person anytime soon, but this forum more than makes up for that!

THAT would be something to see!
Agreed. To see this, the Vacher Hurricane, Duxford Mk1 Spitfire above the Kent coast would be a fitting tribute, dreams can and do sometimes come true.

I’m sorry to see another warbird leave Canada but this Bf109 belongs in the UK or Europe. Maybe we could trade it for a couple of Canadian built Hurricanes? :highly_amused:

It would be brilliant if the UK acquired a genuine BF109E that fought in the Battle of Britain. Just in time for the 75th anniversary next year. There are not many veterans left from 1940 now either, so to get 3 genuine participant fighters together would be very poignant indeed. Hurricane R4118, Spitfire P7350 and Bf109E 3579 would certainly draw in the crowds at the airshows.

Germany, maybe?
Perhaps EADS have acquired it, and they’re gonna flog off their ‘109Gs so that folks can stick the Merlins back on them…. :dev2:

Crikey someones got some serious money.I thought the engine was needing a major overhaul soon as well.
Isn’t supposed to be 150hrs tbo on the DB…. in which case, given it’s only clocked up 67hrs in 15 years so far, it could be another 10 years before it needs an overhaul.:eagerness:
All depends on how much use the new owner envisages for it?
Do hope it does come to the UK 😎
