Lancaster Part from crash site of ME775 Arnouville, France 19.05.44 166 Squadron

Hello, 

I came across this post-stream while working on a biography of one of the crew members of Lancaster ME775 that was shot down near Arnouville, France, 19th May, 1944.

when I mentioned to the family that some parts of the aircraft have been recovered, they became very excited, and have requested that I ask if it is possible to purchase one of the recovered items.

The family involved has an extensive military background, and have a number of items that commemorate the service of their family members.

Accordingly, an artefact from ME775, would be a treasured item for them.

is anyone able to assist or provide advice concerning such (Kirmington?)

My name is Ned Robinson. SGT John Robinson, was my great uncle and the flight engineer of ME775.

My family would very much like to contact the originator of this post to ask about this piece of the aircraft that he was shot down in.

Thank you all very much. That is what it is, rather battered with 2 of the thread unions sheared off. The plane was shot down by a nightfighter, John Booth the pilot and John Terry the Mid Upper were killed , 1 evaded and 4 POWs. I was a friend of the evader and have a photo of him in the 1970s laughing with the farmers family as he tried on his canary Taylor suit that they had kept since the war. I visited the farm in the 1980s to be shown where he had been hidden. Sadly the suit was long gone!

Good eye lads.. that was what threw me was the missing threaded unions..

I was thinking the same Alan, definitely looks like part of the pneumatic system and Autopilot’ish but the ball bearing looked familiar from the bomb cooookk.

Bomb Sight C0ck MK1 6H/1950

I have a c0ck in my hand and it is exactly right. The first picture is from the rear with the backplate missing, the second picture is from the front but upside down with the lever and legend plate missing showing one of the ball detents still in place. Two of the unions have been more or less sheared off.

A/M is correct, there is only one threaded fitting on the part in the picture..

austernj673, it’s not the part you’re thinking of.

It first glance it looks remarkably like a very early type of clip-less bicycle pedal.

Looks like Charlie Oscar Charlie Kilo isn’t allowed on here :rolleyes:

My first guess without anything to confirm it with, would be the air **** handle for the bomb computer, located on the left hand wall of the bomb aimers compartment.

Can you look closely and see if there are any part numbers that would help?
