BS "BRISTOL STANDARD" PARTS ETC DRAWINGS REQUIRED.

Can anyone please suggest where the Bristol Standard drawings might be ?.

These drawings were used from the very early days of Bristol’s “British & Colonial”, & were for everything from standard parts to types of finish etc.

I don’t think that the RAF museum or Shuttleworth have them, so where else might they be ?.

Cheer’s in advance.

Walter-
A few weeks ago I was allowed to look through the Bombay drawings again “in the archives room”, I would guess the problem only occurs if you are spending a lot of time in the room where the drawings are actually stored.

Ed-
I will keep you informed if there is any further news.

Keep up the good work with the Bulldog & don’t be afraid to post a few more photo’s of it “for us avid entusiasts”.

Do you by any chance still have any drawings for the F2b ?.

Cheer’s.

Edgar, Bob, I find that bit re the drawings at the RAFM most interesting.

Last year I copied the majority of Blenheim modification leaflets at the RAFM and when some months ago I enquired by e-mail whether they also had the Bristol drawings that are being referred to in these leaflets they advised they had started the archiving process for the Bristol drawings but that this had to be stopped because of what they described as some of the drawings “off-gassing” causing the staff handling them to feel sick etc. The archiving proces was stopped pending suitable measures being taken.

I was advised to check again sometime in the future. So if they experienced this problem with those drawings, would they allow researchers to look into them I wonder?

Hi cas

If I find any I will keep you in mind.

Edgar- I know of the problems with many of the drawings held by the RAF museum “not just the Bristol ones”, they have thousands of rolls of original linen drawings as well as many more on microfiche, some of which have no mention on the roll as to what they are for, & those rolls that do state the type etc need to be gone through to check that the label on the outside of the roll corresponds to what is actually inside, & any that are not for the type stated need taking out & putting with the others of its type, the drawing numbers in each roll also need to be listed.
Unfortunately the archives department is extremely busy, they could do with some extra staff “& volunteers”, but don’t have the funding for the extra staff.

Whenever I go through a roll of drawings in my never ending search, I always point out to the staff, any drawings that are not for the type listed on the roll, one such drawing was a GA of the navigators seat for the Bollingbroke, which was in with a roll of Bombay drawings.

I will be back at Hendon again soon to have another look through some of the Bristol drawings, & will let you know if I find any of the illusive BS drawings.

The RAF Museum does have a lot of Bristol drawings, in its “MAC” range; they seem to be, mostly, for aircraft, but there are some with no designation. There are thousands of drawings, and they are not in a completely logical order, so prepare to spend some time in the library, going through them (60,000+, last time I looked.)

I spent some time chasing them to no avail
Would also love to get hold of a copy as our blenheim uses the parts and would help us maintain the old girl
