Lobbed into Weybourne last week, a great little strip.
I was a little saddened though, to see the Meteor, which used to be on display at the museum, dismantled on the airfield. Clearly been there for a while and looking rather unloved.
I don’t what the owners plans are for it, but it would be a shame for it to just sit there and deteriorate further.
It was getting dusk by the time I left.

Saw it yesterday heading west on the M25 on two trucks. Glad it has found a new home.

That’s very good news, well done all!

This airframe is now safely sitting (mostly) indoors and will be lovingly restored to a high standard having been rescued this week. Considering the length of time it was were it has been it is in quite good condition externally but we will find out more in the next few weeks. To find out more check the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection site.

I know where it could get a little more attention, anyone got IWM contacts.

A December 2016 update! Apparently the Meteor is still at Weybourne, with the wings removed as per the photos in the first post.

Any news on the Meteor? Would be a great shame if it was abandoned. If only it could re-acquire its silver and fluorescent orange paint scheme and the candy-striped nose probe 🙂

It looks in a similar state to when it was sitting on the Bedford fire dump, from whence it came 🙁
That’s a shame. Looking at pictures on the net, it looked quite smart after it’s restoration at Duxford. Was it just a shell back then?
It appears the outer wing panels have been off for at least four years.

It belongs to the IWM . Another museum expressed an interest in it last year and it was readied for transport. Their interest evaporated and it sits! It needs a roof over its head at somewhere its
appropriate.

The Meteor was on display, fully assembled, for a number of years at the Muckleborough Collection.
It has since been dismantled and removed to a remote area away from the museum. I got the impression it’s been there for quite a while.
Perhaps they are waiting for the IWM to come and claim it back?

I thought this Meteor was displayed at the army transport museum here, how long has it been there and has it not been reassembled since arrival. I cannot remember seeing it at Duxford for many years.

F8 WK968 at Odiham?
And there was a decaying kit of parts that once was TT20 WM224 at North Weald (early 2000’s?) – was that scrapped or saved?
WM224 has been at East Midlands Aeropark since 2003

Both of the North Weald TT.20’s were saved – Aeropark and Manston being the new homes for them.

An RAF gate guard F.8 (Lyneham?) was chopped up in the 80s…

😉 On the upside Joe, with this one there’s no need for a motorcycle for the RAF to help with wing fairing removal! 😀

Meteors don’t seem to fare too well in preservation in some cases. An RAF gate guard F.8 (Lyneham?) was chopped up in the 80s, and there is still a derelict, privately-owned T.7 sitting dismantled over the North side at Duxford

Poor thing! I spent many hours on its restoration at Duxford in the late-70s/early 80s. 🙁
I wonder if it is still on the IWM’s books, or whether it was part of the big clear-out under the previous regime.
