For those who missed this first time round, DV202 has been discussed a couple of times here before. On this link are a couple of photos.

I flew over this lake and the Peenemunde site in May in Spitfire T9 MJ772 from Hangar 10 at Heringsdorf. The attached photo shows the Peenemunde site upper left and the lake which contains the Lancaster wreck upper right.

Brilliant photo. I have always been fascinated about Peenemunde when you think the Moon rockets and missiles all started from here a very busy place, you can imagine V1 and V2’s being tested. To think those Lancaster crews may have seen this same shot. Love to go there one day I bet the atmosphere is still electric. Very moving story in the DM.

Not sure about German law on the issue. I believe some parts, an engine, are in a local museum. There is a similar looking wreck on display in Berlin which was recovered from a nearby lake. Lancaster B III JA914 From 57 Squadron DX-O. Shot down over Berlin in September 1943 at the Deutsche Technikmuseum, Berlin.

The Daily Mirror article probably explains why this particular wreck should remain in situ.

Lucky person having a flight in a Spitfire there!!!!

Out of all the digs and wrecks recovered why does this still sit here?

Or is this because it’s a war grave?

Thanks pp
