Red Arrows Petition have you signed ?

Hi there All,
I have looked at the last few weeks in Historic and Modern threads and have not seen anybody posting other than the debate about how the Red Arrows definitely need to replace the ageing Hawk.T.1. I thought it may be a good to ask about signing the petition now up and running I did notice just under the 2’000 have already. anyway here’s the link below if anybody’s interested.

There are alot of Hawk T.1’s going through a Major programme at the moment -there is certainly enough Hawk T.1’s to last a few years past 2018.

As others have said I would be concerned if the spotlight is put on replacement, the bean counters may decide it is too expensive.

Well I guess we will have to wait and see what the RAF decides to do airshows wise. They no longer do Leuchars, and Waddington is out for airfield and runway rebuild for 2015 with it starting a couple of months from now and it lasts 59 weeks.

The base will not be drawn on if it will return in 2016, citing manpower, resources et al, and and I believe the airshow office got made redundant on the Press day. And the MoD or RAF is saying its reviewing its airshow commitments/participation for the future…..

I get the feeling it don’t sound too good.

Yup, I have a distinct feeling that last weeks Waddo was an end of an era moment and the last ever RAF airshow.

There’s probably just enough T.1 fleet that can be rotated to provide the Arrows with enough a/c to last the remaining time the Arrows have left…..which if rumour has it will be the celebrate the RAF’s 100th Anniversary (what is left of the RAF by then is another matter)

Anyway, just what are you going to replace the T.1’s with?

I fear as others have suggested that drawing attention to the problem is unlikely to sway any minds at the MoD or higher. And even 10,000 signatures is a scratch on the surface and unrepresentative of the hundreds of thousands and more who enjoy the displays every year.

May draw attention to the costs involved and shut them down quicker.

I think I’ll pass, I believe they have T1’s in store as spare ships, to replace the fleet would mean taking aircraft from other duties and modifying them, which isn’t going to happen anytime soon and would cost money the budget no doubt doesn’t have. The current fleet costs nothing bar the normal costs, any other option may result in the team shutting up shop if it is found they do need replacing….

So as said I pass.
