The Helicopter Museum update . Addition to collection

After some delay due to the need to obtain US State Department clearance another rare 1960s military helicopter is now being packaged for freighting across the Atlantic to join this collection. This is an ex US Navy turbine type that was ship based……..guessed what it is yet?

Latest on QH-50D is that it is due into Liverpool Docks on 21st this month so should be at the museum for reassembly by beginning of October. Whilst the cost shipping it from California to the UK has been covered by a US helicopter company we have to pick up the shipping agents rip off cost of it clearing customs and being delivered to Weston. Collecting it ourselves appears to be ruled out due to the added cost quoted for them to take it out of the container and load it on a flatbed….It’s only about 500kg but you’d think it was 10 tonnes !

THM has enjoyed the best August in visitor numbers since opening 25 years ago and celebrated with the last of the month’s Open Cockpit Days by allowing visitors into the Hind cockpit….a rare treat for visitors. Sadly however our collections officer was taken from us only days previously due to a sudden heart attack. Stacie hadn’t been in post very long but previously was a volunteer with us on the front desk so her loss is widely felt. She was great with children and adults alike as all who met her can testify. A real shock.

Co axial rotor system, Boeing engine,no pilot…..give Mr Morten a beer.
The worlds first unmanned helicopter to enter operational service, tho truth to tell many were lost through control failures after which survivors were used for target practice . In keeping with the museum’s philosophy ,something technically and historically different Let you know when it goes on display!!

I doubt it, as the OP specifically mentioned that it is a turbine type.

I’ll go along with the Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH.

With all the UK Sea Kings out there, I’d be surprised to see the museum import an (real 🙂 ) Sikorsky.

No..not a Seasprite or a Sea Knight …….try again. Another clue..it could carry two torpedoes in the ASW role…….
