So tell me if he hadn’t bought them and left them to “rot in place” where would they be now? Oh I know my mums saucepan……………………………………………

So many on this site love distorting others’ words.

My comment was that they should be PRESERVED!

Rotting in a forest IS NOT PRESERVATION!

Yes, it is better than scrapping, but if nothing is done the end result will be the same – a pile of material that is no longer an aircraft!

Wasn’t this the graveyard that the owner reluctantly sold an aircraft only to see it quickly on sold for a large profit?
I think that stopped him from selling any more.. but ironically that particular airframe is probably in better condition than had it stayed where it was?

Actually, if you’re talking about the F2G Super Corsair ‘Race 74’, Soplata was very wary of selling it because he was worried about it being destroyed in a crash. He eventually sold it to the Crawford Museum with the stipulation that it be restored for static only. However they later ran short of funds and sold it on to Bob Odergaard, who completed the restoration to airworthy condition, flew it, crashed it practicing low-level aerobatics and destroyed it, sadly being killed himself in the accident.

Many rare aircraft have found their way from Walters collection into preservation at other locations, if he hadn’t of saved them when he did they would definitely be coke cans now.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t all agree that it would be best to preserve them instead of letting them continue to disappear?

It must be the worst kept ‘secret’ graveyard around!
