Saunders Roe SR53

Does anyone have any spare SR53 bits ? I’m not aiming to put one together (fuel’s too dangerous) but I have a start (very small) Any memorabilia is of interest.
Cheers

Hello Engineman,

I’ve got two small cardboard boxes used to hold fixings marked SR53. They are (or were) high-spec bolts used in its assembly. Not much but you can have them if you want.

The tailplane is wreakage, whether the trial was part of the investigation (151 failed to rotate) or is just being used for some other purpose I don’t know. The photo is one of a box full of blower tunnel trials I was told to throw in the bin – my car is kept looking like a tip for that very reason.

Was that tail section tested after recovery from the crash of XD151? The ghost of the fin flash is still apparent even though the white paint finish has been stripped off.

Its a pity that this bit of XD151 didn’t survive.

When we restored XD145 in the 1980s we had all there was. Even then we had to scrounge all over the place to find some missing bits so I wish you well, but I think you will be extremely lucky to find anything.
