as in the title, I have a small piece of aircraft, and all it says on it is RR396 .. I am wondering what it had come from ?
any clues would be great, as I don’t have any air Britain manuals these days
Thanks 🙂

That’s a Merlin engine part, I can’t ID it without the full D prefixed part number, but if you post a pic I probably can.

hi Pete, well it was a long shot, had this little piece for years, it was not dug by me and i always wondered what it came from ?, it looks like a small gyro part, .. numbers on it are etched on, , probably meaningless, I hate it when history is lost to a item, 🙁
. Numbers etched are “D54?6 RR296 ” hence why I queried the RR number .. guess we will never know ??
many thanks for looking for me any way

That number dies not correspond to any RAF serial it was in a batch of cancelled Airspeed Oxfords

According to Air Britain RR396 comes from a cancelled batch of Oxfords, so something not right there.
