Air Diagram request

Good evening all

Following a visit this weekend to the wonderful Sywell Aviation Museum (can’t recommend it enough, great location, great collection and great guys!) where I purchased a number of 1950’s Air Diagram of US military aircraft, my interest in these oft – overlooked publications has been rekindled and as such I wondered if anyone out there had any they may wish to move on. To clarify they are the three-view plans produced by the Ministry of Supply for Admiralty, War Office and Air Ministry.

I’m particularly interested in Post War silhouettes, British and US, but would specifically love to build up a collection of the many variants of EE Canberra (TT18, T4 and PR9 top the list!) and anything Gloster Aircraft derived, those being my main fields of interest. I’ve spotted the current AD’s on ebay though I’m more aiming for the simple monochrome silhouettes – I somehow find them more appealing.

Any leads gratefully received, I can’t hope to afford cockpits and panels so bits of ragged paper will suit me perfectly!

Many thanks

Timbo

Almost Mike, though I’m more familiar with and the larger A2 (ish) format diagrams with three views – front, plan and side elevation with a very brief description, commonly seen on line hut and crew room walls. These don’t have a blanket AP reference, rather they are individually numbered (4 digits) so each is “Air Diagram XXXX”

I would be interested in having a peek at the 4280’s all the same, could be a new branch off the collection policy!

Thanks for taking the time to bring them to my attention, much appreciated 🙂

Are these the sort of thing you collect, Timbo?

They are Episcope Cards – 4.25ins x 3.25ins and, according to the label, Air Publication 4280K, dated 1950.

I have over a hundred of these, mostly in unopened packs. PM me if interested.

Hi John

Ah yes they are the “satellite” interest as an offshoot of the silhouette collection as I acquired a number of them too – where I have a pair with silhouette and working diagram I’ve framed both together which gives quite pleasing results if that kind of thing tickles your tip-tanks!

I’d certainly be interested via PM or email, thanks for the heads-up 🙂

Hi Tim

Not sure if you’d be interested but the Project were donated a number of official plans for making recognition models. These came from a late member of the ROC and are mostly to 1/72 scale with some larger ones (B50 etc) in 1/144
