Greetings All,
I have been in contact with a very charming woman who would like to donate her late husband’s aviation items to “a good home”. I believe that her intention here is to a museum, or other such public collection.
She has a Bombsight Mk XIVa Computor which appears to be in very good order. She believes that the unit operates when supplied with current (24v). She also has some kind of periscope, which may or may not be related to the Computor. These items were described as having come from a Lancaster, but of course I do not know if such is true.
I believe that her only desire for a return on these items would be some help to formulate and complete the necessary paperwork required to receive a tax credit for a charitable donation. As well, the receiving party must retrieve the items from her home in Sheffield.
Should anyone be interested in these items, please drop me a PM.

Great stuff, and exactly the sort of thing this forum is for.

Greetings All,
I can announce that Linda has indeed made her selection for the recipient of these items. That project/collection has been so informed, and for the rest I am sorry to say that the items are now gone. The recipient will now be at liberty to give further details or refrain, as desired. Thanks, and condolences to the worthy projects who did not win on the day.

The top pic is certainly a Mk XIVA computer normally mounted on the port side of the forward fuselage bomb aimer’s station.
The Bombsight Gyro Unit Sighting Head in pic 2 is actually a Mk XIVB, or a Sperry T-1B, which were interchangeable and replaced the suction-powered gyros in the stabilizer with electrical ones… hence the electrical connector on the rear face of the gyro unit, and the lack of an air filter attached to the rear face. A suction-powered gyro should also have the red-stencilled legend: “Do Not Jar Handle Like Eggs” along the side of the gyro unit.
As for the periscope… not a clue! Although I’ve never heard of one being fitted to a Lanc. Are there any markings (Section Ref No, Air Ministry AM Crown?)
